YESTERDAY IN PARLIAMENT.

-----------------------------------------------
OLDHAM

A taxi driver was stripped of his licence and forced to sell his business because he stopped to give a lift to two undercover police officers pretending to be pedestrians caught in a downpour.

Dennis Street, 53, said he believed he was being 'kind' when he stopped for two men after they flagged him down in the middle of a winter storm in Oldam, Greater Manchester, last January.

He agreed to take the passengers to a party one mile up the road and charged them £2.30 for the journey, even though they had not pre-booked his private hire car.

But when he pulled up at the address, Mr Street was told the men were police community support officers involved in a sting operation targeting rogue taxi drivers.
