The new Scots Taxi and Private hire Act will come into force this year.
There are proposals to limit the number of Private Hire vehicles.
This would be useful in England as well. The Scots are worried about the spread of Criminal organisations into the Private Hire trade. The 'Green' elements are also worried about the emissions caused by the rapid expansion of so many vehicles (mostly diesel) in major Cities.
It is worth remembering, that when the poll tax was introduced in England, it had already been on trial in Scotland the year before.
