In light of the ongoing attacks on the city of Paris by as-of-yet unknown assailants, the French government has shut down borders and the Army has begun securing the city, with the help of taxi drivers offering free rides to get people to secured locations.

 HULL.

A BUSINESSMAN has told how he was tortured by masked robbers who raided his home and stabbed his pet dog.

Chris Davidson, the boss of taxi firm Hull Cars, suffered horrific injuries when his Achilles was sliced and a finger cut so badly it was almost severed.

The gang of robbers tied him up with electric cables and repeatedly kicked him in the head during the terrifying ordeal at his home in Willerby.

The attackers threatened to kill Mr Davidson's elderly mother and even stabbed his pet bulldog Feisty, as they demanded access to a safe.

Mr Davidson, 52, said: "It was the worst night of my life.

"My home, where I should have been safe, was invaded by masked men.

"I am now hardly able to sleep and I don't know if my ankle will ever be fully healed."

David Llewellyn, 29, John Tuffy, 28, Daniel Jones, 26, Jamie Hayes, 30, and Mark Platt, 30, all from Merseyside, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary when they appeared at Hull Crown Court yesterday.

Llewellyn, Tuffy, Jones and Platt also pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.

The court heard how Hayes had driven the gang from Merseyside to the home of Mr Collingham and Mr Davidson just after midnight on March 9.

After getting in through an unlocked door, they told the pair they had been sent because Mr Davidson had "seriously p****d someone off".

They were armed with knives, wearing black masks, had a key to Mr Davidson's safe and demanded £50,000.

But the safe was at Mr Davidson's office – not at his house.

Prosecuting, Martin Sharpe said: "One of the men demanded Mr Davidson take off his Rolex watch and said, 'Are you Chris?'

"He told Mr Davidson he had been targeted, he said he had "seriously p****d someone one."

The gang tied both men up and then sliced Mr Davidson's little finger and kicked and punched him. When he tried to escape, one of the men slashed his Achilles, leaving him unable to walk.

Mr Collingham was also badly beaten and part of his ear was left hanging off.

Feisty the French bulldog was stabbed in the stomach after the men threatened to cut off his head.

After convincing the robbers that the safe was not in the house, the men – apart from Hayes who drove his own vehicle – left the scene in Mr Davidson's Range Rover. They were arrested following a high-speed police chase on the M62, while Hayes was picked up at his home in Merseyside later that day.

Both Mr Davidson and Mr Collingham were rushed to hospital to undergo emergency operations. Feisty also had to have emergency surgery.

Judge Jeremy Richardson QC warned the attackers they will receive a substantial prison sentence.

He said: "This is a very serious crime and very substantial sentences must follow.

"I need to calibrate the sentence for the sake of everyone's interest."

The men will be sentenced on Monday afternoon.

Detective constable Dan Brittain, of Humberside Police, described the attack as "brutal", saying: "The level of violence used by the men in this case was absolutely unnecessary.

"The perpetrators have now quite rightly been brought to justice and the public will be much safer as a result of these violent offenders being sentenced to terms in prison."
