COVENTRY
Four people who were injured in a serious head-on collision in Coventry on Sunday morning remain in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
Two men and two women, all aged in their 20s, were taken to University Hospital Coventry in Walsgrave with serious injuries following the smash in Spon End.
They were all travelling in a Volkswagen Polo GTI, which was in collision with a black cab at around 6am.
Police have also appealed for witnesses to come forward following the accident, in which a 47-year-old taxi driver was also injured.
Police have said his injuries are not life-threatening.
The crash saw four people trapped inside the Polo and they had to be cut free by fire crews.
The driver of the taxi was “assisted” from his vehicle and all five were taken to University Hospital Coventry.
Police taped off a section of Spon End and Butts Road following the collision.
The road remained closed for nearly nine hours on Sunday.
Officers investigating what happened are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the Polo in the moments before the collision.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: “We need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time but not spoken to us already.
“We are trying to piece together what happened in the lead up to this collision as our enquiries continue.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police via Live Chat here between 8am and midnight or call on 101 anytime.
