LONDON

Whitehall was brought to a standstill this afternoon in the latest protest against "uneven" taxi regulation in the capital.

Taxi drivers and their families came out in force near Downing Street at 1pm today, with roads gridlocked and temporarily closed by police.

The protest, the second of its kind since July, was held because London’s black cab drivers believe Transport for London (TfL) are enforcing “uneven regulation” in the taxi and private hire trade.

Drivers have previously claimed they are losing earnings because of companies such as Uber which are allegedly not being subjected to the same licensing rules as black cabs.

Many supporters of the #SaveTaxi campaign held banners and waved flags along Whitehall while taxi drivers were seen lining the streets.
